TIMELINE

Hi, I'm Anthony

I'm currently an undergraduate at Carnegie Mellon University studying Architecture. I started off my academic career being formally trained in architecture design — but started taking HCI courses and immediately fell in love.

My architectural background

In August of 2019, I began my undergraduate studies in the School of Architecture at Carnegie Mellon University. Before moving to Pittsburgh from New York City, I had "majored" in architecture in high school. I was passionate about architecture.

I was particularly fascinated with concepts related to urban systems and spatial experiences — how our built environment influences our lifestyles and society.

But, I wanted more

Although I enjoyed the freedoms afforded by the academic architecture environment, I was dissatisfied with how slow the industry moved.

There was a huge disconnect between the final results of my craft and the effects it had for people. I wanted to quicken my process and have a positive impact on more people.

UX & Me

During my junior year, I decided to take some HCI courses recommended to me by classmates pursuing UX. I later moved into independent studies with professors as a UX designer and joined my university's HCI interest organization, the User Experience Association.

Before I knew it I landed my first UX internship and the rest is history.

Architecture → UX

To my surprise, a lot of the skills and design fundamentals that I learned in architecture school had a place in the HCI practice.

I love to make things.

I value visual storytelling.

I immerse myself in the complexity.

And I pay particular attention to precision and my craft.

During my free time…

I'm probably at a coffee shop chatting with friends or tweaking my portfolio.

I believe that I will forever be a student. You'll likely find me watching tutorials on web development, graphic design, or animation.

Other than that, I enjoy playing volleyball and ultimate frisbee, biking, gaming, and trying out new food spots!

THE MAIN INSIGHT

None of the tools used by our interviewees included recorded performances aligned with sheet music

Based on the trends in the affinity map, we noticed that in addition to sheet music, recordings of performances (of themselves or of others) are essential reference material to learning repertoire but are found using other sources
